Fun at the Factory

Fun at the Factory

14 under par through 27 holes of golf. Now that’s what I call a start to the 2017 golf season! Actually, I think it’s the best stretch of golf I’ve ever had. Okay, I’ll admit… it was at a 9-hole mini-golf course in Franklin, North Carolina. Still, 14
under through 27? That’s pretty damn good on any track.

While our kids were playing “The Factory’s” assortment of arcade games on New Years Day, my good mate Wayne Sheffield and I decided to go head to head over the trickiest greens in the state (Pinehurst’s are a close second). Armed with double-sided cast putters and colored golf balls, we set about tearing up the course record.

I think we were only meant to go around the 9 hole layout once, but we couldn’t help ourselves after I pipped him by a shot the first time around. Since there was no one else on the course we did another lap, and this time I got him by two. Once more was the call, since the kids had just gone into play laser tag.

Holding a three-shot lead the traditional Aussie/English sledging came out at every opportunity with the finish line in sight. To Wayne’s credit, he carded his best 9-hole score (obviously my sledging needs work), but I managed to sneak two hole-in-ones early on and it was all over after that. When we tallied up the scores Wayne shot 9 under, while I was 14 below par for a five shot victory. Typically, in his mind, he won, though, because apparently giving him two strokes per nine holes seemed fair. I would have agreed if he’d told me before we started, not after we finished. Nice try, though.

That’s the beauty about this great game. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world or on what piece of property if you have a club and a ball, you can make a game out of it. Especially if there are bragging rights involved!!

Australia 1, England 0.

Good luck on your golfing escapades this year.

Cheers,

Nick
